ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS (AHAs) - a family of acids that have exfoliating and hydrating properties. The acid functions by absorbing into the stratum corneum and gradually loosening the cement bond that holds the cells together. The amount of "down time" or "peeling" time is dependant upon the clients tolerance, amount of acid used, and the condition of the clients skin to start with. Generally speaking, these are the most gentle peels.
Glycolic Acid: A 2 carbon chain acid originally made from sugar cane, however today most are chemically engineered. Due to its small molecular structure (smallest of the five AHAs) it has great penetrating abilities. It supports the regeneration of the skin and is of benefit to acne prone skin.
Lactic Acid: A 3 carbon chain acid originally made from soured milk, it is of benefit to dry, sensitive skin because of its hydrating qualities. It also stimulates regeneration of skin cells. Good for all skin types because it is not as reactive as Glycolic Acid.
